Made-in-Vietnam AUV successfully tested

The first autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) , built by Cam Ranh Shipyard in central Khanh Hoa province, has successfully completed its trial run at Cam Ranh Bay, the Ministry of Science and Technology announced on September 22.

The vehicle, 6.63m long and 2.74m high, has a speed of 4.5 nautical miles per hour. It can carry four people and dive to a depth of 50 meters within 24 hours. It is capable of contacting other ships at a distance of around 1km through radio communication systems.

After its successful test run, the AUV will be given another test before its official operation.

A representative from the Ministry of Science and Technology highlighted the feasibility and advantages of the newly-tested vehicle that utilizes local resources, in terms of both labour cost and technical services.
